These are just some of the questions that people ask themselves and others about the role of leaders in organisations and in other aspects of life. Even if we thought we knew the answers to these questions, the events of the past two years have caused many people to think again about what leadership means and how to do it.

Our old paradigms of leadership have been challenged by the constraints of lockdown, by the shift to virtual meeting and working and by the threat to mental and physical well-being created by the global pandemic that began in 2020.

No doubt you have found your own way through this maze of difficult questions and often unpalatable answers.  There was no choice but to ‘find a way’ and many people have emerged from this difficult time with valuable new skills and experiences.  Now, as companies settle into new patterns of ‘hybrid’ working or a full return to the workplace, is a good time to take stock again.

I have been fascinated by leadership for about 30 years. I’ve observed and interviewed hundreds of leaders and the people who work for them. I’ve created a unique model of leadership that focuses on five key areas of activity and I’d love to share it with you.
