LAB Profile Practitioner Training
“Imagine having a quick way to assess people without a lengthy, expensive online questionnaire”
There you are, sitting in a meeting that you thought was going to be straightforward and suddenly you realise that two key players are beginning to disagree. Voice tones have shifted, the atmosphere feels different and you can see they are gearing up to defend their respective corners.
And yet, you know that, deep down, they both want the same results. Why are they not in agreement? What is going on?
Or you’ve had a great conversation with a client or prospect. They were giving some obvious buying signals and you could tell they liked your proposal.
And then…
… they didn’t buy. Did you do something wrong? What is going on?
If you’re serious about understanding people and bringing out the best in those around you, let me introduce you to the LAB Profile…
The LAB (Language and Behaviour) Profile…
…is a totally different way of making sense of the differences between people. If you’ve enjoyed using traditional psychometrics (and even if you haven’t), you’re going to love this!
What difference would it make if you could:
- Decode what really motivates someone by listening to their everyday conversation?
- Choose between the shortlist of candidates for a job, by picking the person who will thrive in the environment and be motivated by the work?
- Predict who will work effectively at home and who really needs to be in the office?
- Present organisational and work-based changes in a way that engages and enthuses everyone?
- Resolve ‘personality clashes’ that threaten the wellbeing of the team and endanger the success of a project?
- Adapt to new situations readily and help others to do the same?
- Take the right steps to convince someone and ‘make the sale’ every time?
The Language and Behaviour (or LAB) Profile
The LAB Profile is a totally different kind of profiling tool.
- It works on your observation and experience of the person you want to profile. NOT their self-perceptions
- Because it’s done by expert interview, it’s very hard for the person being profiled to give anything other than a true reflection of their patterns
- The profiling interview is an engaging and interactive process – people ENJOY the experience
- The process is flexible and easy to learn.
This is your opportunity to discover the LAB Profile and how to use it to increase your influence, to inspire and motivate the people around you and to create deeper, more meaningful connections with the people who matter to you.
But I’m getting ahead of myself…
The LAB Profile has many and varied applications. It’s not just about figuring out what makes someone ‘tick’. And to get the benefit of all these possibilities, we need to start with the basic profile. It’s at the heart of everything that we can do with this powerful tool.
The LAB Profile is totally different from most types of profiling tool:
- It works on external observation and experience of the person being profiled. NOT their self-perceptions, as in most psychometrics
- It uses the hidden patterns in everyday language and behaviour that are the key to really understanding what makes someone ‘tick’
- It recognises that a person can behave differently in different contexts
- It makes sense of a person’s reactions, even when they seem to be acting ‘out of character’
- It is completed through a casual conversation or interview, using a set of strategic questions
- You can select elements of the profile to use, you don’t have to do the whole thing every time
- There are no ‘per-profile’ costs. Once you’re trained to use it, profiles are free!
Literally, the Profile is a set of questions, used by an expert interviewer (that could be you after you take this training) to decode the structure of thinking and communication that underlies a person’s behaviour in a specific context such as work, learning, playing sport or making a presentation. Once we have the answers to the questions, we can predict what kind of language and behaviour the person will use. Which means that we can communicate effectively with that person.
Here’s a video clip of me using the LAB Profile with Debbie, one of Brilliant Minds’ Associate Partners. You can see that it can be done quite conversationally. The real value comes at the end, when we use the insights from the LAB Profile to find a way forward where Debbie had been feeling a bit stuck…

What the LAB Profile can do for you…
By focusing on how people talk, rather than what they talk about, The LAB Profile enables us to understand.
- What motivates a person
- How a person processes information to secure understanding and appreciation
- The conditions that enable a person’s greatest productivity
- How a person becomes convinced about something
When we asked previous attendees what they thought the benefits of the programme were
- in a nutshell - they told us...
I love the LAB Profile…
…and ever since I qualified to use it and teach it to others, I’ve used it more and more each year. Since achieving my LAB Profile Trainer certification in 2011 and Master Trainer/Consultant in 2016, I’ve profiled hundreds of people and used the insights in coaching, personal development, team development, recruitment and problem-solving. I’ve also taught this programme (or elements of it) in Europe, Singapore and Mauritius as well as at home in the UK.
I’ve even used it to create a Culture Change programme that kept the client in the driving seat, didn’t cost the earth and delivered results in less than six months.

What you take away when you undertake this training
After working through 3-day programme with me (I’m a Certified LAB Profile Master Consultant/Trainer) with lots of practical exercises and personal feedback, you gain an understanding of:
- The 6 Motivation Patterns that people need in order to get excited about something
- The 8 Productivity Patterns that describe how people process information, the environments they need to be productive, their response to stress and how they become convinced
- How to discover the Patterns for an individual or group
- The types of language to ‘speak’ to the differing patterns
- How to apply this tool to any communication context
You also have the opportunity to be accredited as a LAB Profile Practitioner. All you have to do is demonstrate that you can correctly ask the LAB Profile questions, identify the patterns associated with the answers and give clear feedback. Much of the third day is devoted to this.
I promise you that once you’ve mastered the LAB Profile, you’ll wonder how you ever influenced anyone without it. It really does take the guesswork out of your interactions with other people. So if you don’t want to waste any more time wondering what REALLY makes people tick…
